St. Catherine's
Rectory

The former rectory of the Church of Santa Caterina is nestled in the medieval village of the same name on the northern slopes of the town of Asolo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

It is developed as a building juxtaposed to the mid-1400s church restored in the 1930s. The project was an extraordinary opportunity to recover a minor architecture, whose traces and constituent elements characterize the aesthetics proper to the small medieval villages of Veneto.

The three floors of the building communicate with each other through a system of exposed stairs that combine the tradition of cast iron and white marble with the contemporaneity of raw steel, concrete and wood. The solutions adopted for the interior followed rigorous principles of respect for the existing, both in the care and recovery of the original materials and in the technical solutions adopted.
Plasterwork, terracotta floors, pictorial stratifications, skilfully restored wooden window frames, but also trusses, marble shelves, tiles and proportions, formed the background of the new layer of contemporary solutions: from the system of benches in cor-ten steel to the facings in perforated sheet metal, from the restored cast iron staircase to the tubular elements of shielding and protection of the stairs.
